Potato Products
Potato
products like chips are the biggest promoters of obesity. It is one of the
major causes of child obesity epidemic. Unfortunately, kids eat potato chips
too often. On January 26th of this year, BBC published an article in which they
clearly evidenced that chips and other potato products can increase the risk of
diabetes during pregnancy. New England Journal of Medicine published results of
a study spanning over four years. The weight of 120,000 men and women ageing up
to 20 was measured and at the end of the study, it was found that people eating
more potato and potato products gained average 17 pounds.
Refined Grains
This
ingredient is found in white bread, white rice, regular white pasta and some
other foods. Refined grains are said to contain added sugar and salt that make
the consumer feel hungry faster. This, apart from contributing to obesity, also
increases the risk of diabetes and heart diseases. However, whole grains are
backed by Pennsylvania State University researchers. They have found that a
group of people eating whole grains with healthy diet lost more belly fat.
Red and Processed Meat
It
adds an extra pound every four years. It has a direct relation with the risk of
obesity, and higher WC and BMI. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
published a report according to which researchers found that those who eat red
and processed meat equivalent of a small steak a day gained additional five
pounds every five years. This study conducted was with 370,000 Americans.
Diet Soda
San
Antonio Heart Study shared its data gathered after studying more than 5000
adults for seven and eight years. Analysis of this data by researchers reveals
that the possibility of obesity is pretty high in folks consuming diet soda.
